We went on our first real road trip as a family the beginning of June. Well, we have been on 16 hours drives and moves before, but when I think of a road trip, I think of what we did this trip. We flew to San Antonio, rented a car and drove up through TX and OK stopping in Austin, Dallas, Norman, Enid and then finally getting to Tulsa (I also had a short trip to AR). We got to visit friends and family all along the way. It truly was a wonderful memory making 2.5 weeks. The best part for me was that Greg got to be with us the whole time! Seriously...such a huge blessing. Here's recap of our trip.First stop San Antonio: We stayed with my cousin's Rosemary and Harvey. Rosemary was a gift from God to me when I lived in San Antonio after college. She took me in as her own (and all the people I worked with at SW). I have missed her so much and it was great to spend time with her and her sweet husband. The kids adored them. We were able to go to Sea World and visit some of my friends that I used to work with. It was wonderful to see them. One of my friends that is there started a year after I did and now she is a supervisor there. We hadn't seen each other in a long time-we were both crying. It was just an awesome time. The kids were able to see all the animals up close. They loved it. Some of our friends from Austin were able to join us too. We also went downtown and toured the Alamo and went down the river walk. I miss it there!
Second stop Austin: We stayed with one of Greg's lifelong friend's and his precious family. They were so gracious to us and even threw Brennan a little bday party-one of many over the last month! It was great to spend time with them. We also go to see my Aunt and Uncle..not my biological aunt and uncle, but I have always called them that. It was precious time that I am so grateful for! We had lunch one day with one of my great friends from SW and his beautiful family. He now works in Austin as a Chiropractic Neurologist.
Third stop Dallas: Yeah Gordon's!!! These are our awesome friends that G went to pilot training with the husband Kevin. Well-they were a class or so apart..but close enough. Jennifer and I met and instantly became great friends. They have 3 adorable kids. We had the best time with them. We had room in a hotel 1 door down from each other...so we cracked the doors open and sat in the hallway for a few hours to chat after the kids went to bed. We went to a children's museum with them and then started our drive to Norman, OK.
Next Stop Oklahoma: We finally reached Norman 6 days after we started our trip. We were only there over night with Jeff, Kari and Landon, because the next day we were headed to Enid, OK where the kids were in a wedding. Thursday afternoon we headed to Enid where we stayed with our friends Trevor and Susan. Trevor is another pilot training buddy of Greg's. They are always so gracious to let us stay with them. Their kids had us laughing the whole time we were with them. They too-sang happy birthday to Brennan and we celebrated with donuts! They have these little motorized cars for the kids and we could not get Brennan off of them! The wedding was for our old babysitter from when we lived in Enid. She just married a T1 guy who is going on to fly the KC 135 (same as Greg!!!). We all laugh at how it turned out. The wedding was beautiful and the kids (L and J) were so honored to be a part of it. After the wedding we headed to Tulsa to spend a week with Greg's family. It was a week filled with family, lake adventures, tea parties and a UPS birthday party. At the end of that week, G flew home with Brennan, Lauren and Joshua stayed a couple extra days with Uncle Jeffy and Aunt Kari (where they got spoiled!!!!) and I drove to Arkansas to visit on of my BFF's Joni for a couple days. It was really refreshing to be in the car for a total of 8 hours by myself!! What to do!! Joni and I had great girl time and I got to see her beautiful kiddos. Finally, I drove back to OK..picked up the other 2 and flew home.....now it is back to reality :).
